What's New for the 2018 Ford F-150?

This year, Ford is rolling out a 3.3-liter V6 engine to replace the old base engine, a 3.5-liter V6. Compared to the engine it replaces, the new base V6 delivers a bump in power and an increase in fuel economy. Ford also revised both the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6 and the 5.0-liter V8 so that they supply extra power for your towing and hauling needs. Both of these engines are now mated to a new 10-speed automatic transmission, increasing fuel economy at high speeds. All Ford F-150 models now include start-stop technology, shutting the engine down when you're stopped in traffic to conserve fuel. Later in the model year, a turbocharged diesel-powered V6 engine is set to debut. The Ford F-150 forward collision mitigation system has also improved, so you can count on extra safety in the face of a potential crash.

Ford F-150 Trims & Technology

There are six Ford F-150 trim models available, with feature content ranging from work-truck basics to high-end luxury. Choose between the XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum, and Limited for the level of comfort and convenience that suits your daily grind. In the base XL, you get a sturdy work truck, with trailer sway control and pre-wired trailer connections to help move heavy loads. In the F-150 XLT, you'll find more pizzazz, including chrome bumpers and exterior trim. The rear privacy glass gives the cabin a cozy vibe. The F-150 Lariat increases luxury, with leather upholstery and ventilated front seats to cool you down on a hot day. In addition to luxury, the F-150 King Ranch offers Western-flavored style, with saddle-brown leather upholstery and special interior trim. As far as features are concerned, the Platinum is similar to the King Ranch. However, its cabin gives off more of an uptown style, with wood and aluminum interior trim. The top-trim Limited specializes in luxury, treating you to upgraded leather upholstery and a full roster of tech and convenience features.

Hauling Power

2018 Ford F-150 ExteriorHorsepower is never in short supply in the F-150. This full-size pickup truck lets you choose between four engines - with another on the way later in the model year. The base 3.3-liter V6 engine delivers 290 horsepower and 265 pound-feet of torque, plenty of heft to move heavy loads. Next up is the turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, which boosts output to 325 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque, even as it delivers the line's best EPA ratings, earning up to 20 city/26 highway mpg. If you need still more power, look into the 5.0-liter V8 engine, which generates 395 horses and 400 pound-feet of torque. Finally, the F-150 most powerful engine, the turbocharged 3.5-liter V6, is available to maximize towing and hauling capabilities with 375 horses and 470 pound-feet of torque. Later this year, look for Ford's new turbo diesel engine, which will deliver an abundance of torque for enhanced towing capabilities.

Safety

2018 Ford F-150 InteriorSafety is a major part of the F-150 brand. When this pickup was redesigned in 2015, it was the first full-sized pickup truck to earn a perfect five-star overall rating in government crash tests. Today, the 2018 F-150 continues that tradition, once again earning top crash-test scores to help you maintain peace of mind on the highway. This year, Ford improved the forward collision mitigation system for better protection against an oncoming crash. You'll also find a range of innovative safety features available, including the Pro Trailer Backup System, which helps you guide a trailer in the right direction, so you can ease it into your driveway without jackknifing.
