Houston Ford Dealer Reviews the 2016 Explorer

As the best-selling SUV for the past 25 years, the Ford Explorer continues to evolve and strengthen its legacy each year. Ford engineers work diligently to keep the Explorer at the forefront of its segment and for the 2016 model year this is no exception. Partially restyled and updated, the 2016 Ford Explorer features slight exterior and interior tweaks, upgraded safety functions, a fresh EcoBoost engine option and a brand-new trim level: Platinum. Glance over our 2016 Ford Explorer review to learn about each of these changes to the model and what they have to offer.

Available with three different engines, the 2016 Ford Explorer in Houston does not skimp when it comes to power. The model's 3.5L V-6, standard on Base, XLT and Limited trims, delivers 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. A turbocharged version of the V-6 is also available on Explorer Sport and Platinum trims, and features the ability to output 365 horsepower and 350 lb.-ft. of torque. Coming into the new model year, a brand-new 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder, generating 270 horsepower and 300 lb.-ft. of torque, replaces the previously available 2.0L four-cylinder on Base, XLT and Limited models, and produces top-notch fuel economy.

Outside of the mechanical department, the new Ford Explorer receives new LED headlights and a restyled grated grille. The cabin also features new tactile buttons that make using MyFord Touch a cinch, as well as multiple USB charging ports to power up all your gadgets. Aside from these modifications, the 2016 Ford Explorer gains a new Platinum trim option that comes with every component available apart of the Limited's 301A package. Automatic high beams, massaging front seats, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, upgraded upholstery and a dual-panel sunroof are just a few of the amenities offered on the top-of-the-line trim option.
