Ford is No. 1 Mainstream Brand in J.D. Power Initial Quality Study

Ford has reached a major milestone in 2026, claiming the top spot among mainstream brands in J.D. Power's Initial Quality Study for the first time since 2010. By concentrating on what matters most to vehicle owners—including advanced safety features, elevated engineering, and state-of-the-art cabin tech—Ford has captured top industry honors.

No. 1 Mainstream Brand

Ford's ascension in the study reflects continuous refinement. After ranking No. 15 among mainstream brands in 2023, the automaker rose through the rankings to secure the No. 1 spot. Jim Farley, Ford President and CEO, remarked on the team's commitment to quality.

"This is a proud day for everyone at Ford and the result of years of intensive work across our company. Many doubted that an American company with a huge American workforce could compete with the world's best on quality, let alone reach the top. But we put our heads down and worked together every day to deliver for our customers." Farley elaborated, "Today, Ford is not only the most American automaker but also the gold standard for new vehicle quality."

Thomas King, J.D. Power president of OEM solutions, emphasized that Ford's victory was driven by core model lines. He remarked, "The Ford F-150, Ford Mustang, and Ford Super Duty ranked highest in their respective segments."

In total, seven out of 10 Ford models finished in the top three of their categories, a clear reflection of rigorous build standards.
