Urban Outreach, Inc. was founded in 1996. The organization was started by a group of churches in the Houston area that identified the need to support schools and families in the inner city areas of Houston.
Apartment Community Program
Through its Apartment Community Program, Urban Outreach, Inc. serves children with after-school activities in nearly 25 communities across the Houston area. The organization trains and appoints a volunteer leader for each community where it works. The community leader lives in the community and works to build relationships with managers within the community and families. The program includes children's activities in the evening, along with a character development program and a program designed to eliminate hunger. Children also receive assistance with their homework and reading through the program.
Summer Camp
Each summer, Urban Outreach, Inc. runs a camp called Camp on the Hills. The camp is open to children between the ages of 8 and 15. Approximately 200 children attend camp each summer, which is held near Marble Falls, Texas. The summer camp is a week-long program that offers activities for inner-city youth such as swimming, arts and crafts, fishing, campfires, Bible studies, and more. The camp has hosted over 4,000 campers since its launch 20 years ago.
Soccer Camp
For children who enjoy participating in sports, Urban Outreach, Inc. offers several soccer camps during the summer. The soccer camps include a combination of sports practice and character development lessons. The goal of the soccer camps is to emphasize teamwork and collaboration while improving children's emotional and physical control.
Community Events
Along with its core programs, Urban Outreach, Inc. also holds a number of community events. Some of its key activities include pool parties, back-to-school events, holiday celebrations, and movie nights.
