Federal EV Tax Credit

What Should Houston Ford Shoppers Know About EV Tax Credits?

Federal electric vehicle incentives are winding down. The Clean Vehicle Credit—offering up to $7,500 in tax savings—will expire September 30, 2025, unless renewed. The home charger installation credit ends even sooner on June 30, 2026. Timing matters if you’re considering an electric Ford vehicle in Houston.

How Much Is the Clean Vehicle Credit—and What Does It Cover?

The total $7,500 credit is split into two parts:

  • $3,750 for meeting battery component sourcing requirements
  • $3,750 for meeting critical mineral content rules

Some Ford EVs may only qualify for part of the credit, or not at all, depending on how they’re built. It’s important to verify your vehicle’s eligibility.

What Are the Eligibility Requirements for Ford EVs?

For a Ford EV to qualify, it must:

  • Be new at the time of purchase
  • Include a battery of at least 7 kWh
  • Be assembled in North America
  • Be from a qualified manufacturer
  • Have an MSRP under $80,000 for trucks/SUVs or $55,000 for other models
  • Be reported to the IRS by the dealer
  • Be purchased by a buyer within the IRS income limits

When Do These Incentives End?

  • The federal EV tax credit ends September 30, 2025.
  • The home charger credit ends June 30, 2026.

Congress may extend these programs, but nothing is guaranteed. Acting now gives you the best chance to qualify before they run out.
