Ford To Invest Billions for America's Shift to Electric Vehicles

Ford has decided to invest more money in factories for electric vehicles than any U.S. Manufacturer in history. It's doing so along with its partner SK, which is a South Korean company that makes electric batteries themselves. Together, they are investing $11.4 billion.

New EV Factories for a New Age

Ford is planning on creating factories in Tennessee and elsewhere called BlueOval City. It's going to be 6 miles square in Tenn. Altogether Ford will be making 11,000 new jobs for people at the factory. This factory will be used to create electric batteries at a huge scale to create F-Series electric trucks at high speed to meet the demand for an increasing number of people looking for electric cars within the next few years.

The estimation from Ford is that demand will increase by at least 50 percent over the next 10 years. As costs for vehicles that run fossil fuels will continue to go up while alternative energy vehicles become cheaper.

The Prevalence of EVs

Currently, The U.S. Has a low amount of interest in electric vehicles from its populace compared to the rest of the world. Statistics indicate that U.S. Sales for electric vehicles only make up 2 percent of the sales from the global market.

The other part of this is the role that the government might play. Already they are spending billions of dollars on programs like adding customer incentives for purchasing electric vehicles since it will help get the U.S. Converted to an alternative energy source market more quickly. Since fossil fuels will not last forever, and fossil fuel vehicles will eventually be considerably less useful and economical than they are now, it's in the government's best interest to do this.

Investment from the government is also coming in the form of creating more electric charge points. This is often a big sticking point for why people don't buy electric vehicles in the first place. If they don't know where they would charge up, they will hesitate more to purchase. So, fixing this problem will only help increase interest in this tech.
