The Mustang's ongoing 50th anniversary celebration has led to the creation of incredible memorabilia, including Mustang-themed pinball machines and Mustang candy. Now, Ford has just added one more collector's item to that ever-growing list and it comes in the form of a fine art sculpture. Through a joint venture with U.K.-based sculptor Robin Bark, Ford is now selling limited edition 1965 Mustang sculptures, which were handcrafted by Bark himself. A mere 500 models were created to pay tribute to the iconic pony car during its anniversary year, honoring its famous design.

A car enthusiast at heart, Bark has produced a variety of cast-aluminum car sculptures over the years, but when he was presented with the Mustang project, he knew it would a bit of a challenge. He found the pony car's unique shape difficult to capture and wanted to focus on the essence of the car from the engineer's perspective in order to create an ideal look. Bark started by looking at photos of the Mustang and drawing up engineering sketches to get a general idea. He then made a model out of clay, which he created a resin version of to study the light's reflection off of it and then developed an aluminum prototype.

"From the shark-bite nose to the long, sweeping line of the fastback roof to the tri-bar taillamps, Mustang has a quintessential profile that makes it easily recognizable to everyone on the road," said Moray Callum, Ford vice president, global design. "Robin Bark has captured the essential nature of one of the greatest Mustangs in his sculpture, creating an object of art that appears to be fluid motion."

In addition to the Mustang sculptures, Bark has also created sculpture versions of historic cars such as the 1955 Mercedes Benz 300SLR, Porsche 356, Austin Healy and Jaguar XK Coupe. With such amazing talent in all areas of the art world, there's no telling what he'll come up with next.
