Nobody likes the unpleasant feeling of driving down a pothole-riddled road. That’s why Ford engineers have come up with a solution for that. The 2017 Ford Fusion V6 Sport comes equipped with an advanced computer-controlled shock absorber system, which greatly reduces that jarring feel when your wheels drive over potholes.

Not only does this new system offer a smoother ride, but it helps protect your car from pothole damage which can be expensive to fix.

Here’s how the shock absorber system works: On board computers analyze multiple signals collected from 12 high-resolution sensors – adjusting the dampers every 2 milliseconds for the best vehicle response in every situation. In addition, when the edge of a pothole is detected, the car’s computer adjusts the dampers to their stiffest settings so the wheel doesn’t fall as far into the pothole.

“Our new pothole mitigation technology works by actually detecting potholes and ‘catching’ the car’s wheel before it has a chance to droop all the way into the pothole,” said Jason Michener, Ford Engineering Expert. This translates into a smoother ride and great cornering capabilities for drivers of the all-new Fusion.

With the push of a button, drivers can change suspension tuning on the car. Normal mode balances comfort and handling for daily driving, while sport mode increases overall damping rates that allow the vehicle to respond quicker to driver input and to corner flatter for more spirited driving.

As Ford’s new model for 2017, the Fusion Sport will also come standard with adaptive cruise control, enhanced parking assist and a pre-collision braking system with pedestrian detection. In the meantime, check out our 2016 Ford Fusion models.
