The fully remodeled, all-new 2015 Ford Edge was applauded by critics when revealed last summer, but at the time Ford hadn’t released any info regarding the SUV’s fuel economy and powertrain specs. Edge is scheduled to arrive this spring, so we’re sure prospective shoppers want to know exactly what the SUV’s revised engine lineup offers in terms of muscle and mpg. We’ve got the data, finally released by Ford, and think you’ll be happy with the numbers you see.
First off, Ford did a switcharoo with the engines in a bold move. Last year’s optional engine is now the standard powerplant, while the previous standard engine is optional for 2015. There’s also a brand-new engine on the Edge Sport, which replaces last year’s 3.7-liter V-6 and delivers greater horsepower and torque. Now, without further ado, here are the mpg and powertrain specs for the redesigned 2015 Ford Edge:
The standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder will offer 245 horsepower (up 5 horses) and 270 pound-feet of torque. The EPA estimates that it will get you 20 city/30 highway mpg with front-wheel drive and 20 city/28 highway mpg with all-wheel drive.
The optional 3.5-liter V-6 is rated at 280 hp and 250 pound-feet of torque. The 3.5-liter can achieve 18 city/26 highway mpg with front-wheel drive and 17 city/25 highway mpg with all-wheel drive according to the EPA’s fuel economy estimates.
The Edge Sport is offered with a new-this-year 2.7-liter V-6 that’ll crank out 305 hp and 280 pound-feet or torque. The EPA says FWD-equipped models will hit 18 city/27 highway mpg, while AWD models come in at 17 city/24 highway mpg.
Other Notable Changes for 2015
In addition to the new engine and revised power output of the four-cylinder, the 2015 Edge will also show off other changes including: a stylish new look, revised suspension tuning for a smoother ride, longer and taller dimensions, improved cabin materials, a new adaptive steering system (Edge Sport and Titanium) and added safety technologies, such as lane keep assist and forward collision warning.
