2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo

In Town for the 2018 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo? – Why Not Check out Joe Myers Ford

For over 80 years, the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo has offered those who live here and millions of people who travel here the ultimate in entertainment, education, and opportunities to help many charities right here in Texas. Listed as the largest rodeo and livestock show in the world, visitors come here from all around the globe to enjoy all this incredible show has to offer over the course of 20 days.

Off to a Big Start

The 2018 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo gets off to a big start with a parade that runs through downtown Houston starting at the corner of Bagby and Walker Streets and ends up at the corner of Lamar and Bagby. In 2017, over 2.6 million visitors came to Houston to attend HLSR.

New for this year is a custom-built stage shaped like a five-pointed star, featuring a rotating center stage. Each of the points measures 36-feet long and can be raised and lowered individually or all together. What's so special about this stage? Beyond the 434 lights and the 28-foot video screen? Perhaps, it’s the fact that the first big star to appear on the new stage is none other than Garth Brooks.

Like the "old" stage? The good news is that you can still get your picture taken standing on a large section of the old stage that is on display in Show Pride which is located in the NRG Center lobby at the west end. The new stage measures 126 feet long and features a host of the latest technology designed to enhance both concert presentation and overall fan experience.

Come for the Fun, But Check out the Livestock Show

Come for the fun, but don't forget to check out the livestock show. The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is the largest of its kind in the world. In 2017, Ministers of Agriculture from Columbia and Russia were visitors, along with 2,600 international businessmen from over 88 countries around the world. In 2016, the HLSR International Committee calculated the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo brought in over $2.6 million in agriculture sales.

The Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo is not just about selling animals, having fun, and raising money. There are also several junior market auctions for the kids that come in from all across the state to show the various animals they have spent time raising. Animals being judged include cattle, sheep, pigs, chickens, goats, and rabbits. Once the judging is over, the winners are auctioned off. The money raised is split and winners receive a set percentage of the final sale price in the form of scholarship money. Any excess funds are added to the general scholarship fund.
